Dr Roy G. Beran is a highly respected consultant neurologist and accredited sleep physician, with extensive expertise in legal, military, and aviation medicine. He holds an impressive array of qualifications, including MBBS, MD, FRACP, FRACGP, Grad. Dip. Tertiary Ed., Grad. Dip. Further Ed., FAFPHM, FACLM, FRCP, FAAN, FACBS, B Leg. S, MHL, and FFFLM (Hon). Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a specialist in Neurology, Public Health, and Sleep Medicine, Dr Beran's diverse expertise makes him a unique authority in his field.

Dr Beran's academic roles are as diverse as his medical practice. He is a Conjoint Professor of Medicine at the University of New South Wales, Professor in the School of Medicine at Griffith University, Queensland, Conjoint Professor at Western Sydney University and Was Professor, Chair of Medical Law at Sechenov Moscow 1st State University, Russia, where he made a principled decision to end his tenure following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He was the inaugural Visiting Professor at the International Research Institute of Health Law Sciences at Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, China, in 2024, he was the invited Professor to deliver a series of lectures at the Eastern Chinese University Centre for Political Science and Law.

As a pioneering figure in clinical trials within private practice, Dr Beran has published over 400 papers, book chapters, and letters to the editor, and has presented more than 450 papers at national and international conferences. His editorial influence extends to numerous boards, and he served as the Editor-in-Chief of the international journal, Medicine and Law.

Dr Beran's leadership in legal medicine is equally distinguished. He was a founding Fellow and Past President of the Australasian College of Legal Medicine (ACLM), where he continues to serve on the Council and co-ordinates training courses across Australia. His international influence is reflected in his roles as the Australian Governor, Immediate Past President, and former Vice President and Secretary General of the World Association for Medical Law (WAML). He has presided over and organised numerous World Congresses on Medical Law.

In addition to his medical and legal contributions, Dr Beran served as a Commander in the Royal Australian Navy Reserve and was honoured with membership in the Order of Australia in 2015.
